Give Yourself a Smile Makeover this New Year

Are you unhappy with how your teeth look? Perhaps it’s something as simple as discoloration caused by age and the coffee, tea, or red wine you love. It could also stem from other issues — crooked teeth you always wished were straight; teeth that are chipped, or a space left from a tooth that had to be extracted. You can solve all of these problems with a smile makeover.

At Sac Dentist in Sacramento, our experienced and board-certified dentists Dr. Hinnh, Dr. Mistry, and Dr. Tanglao are here to help you transform your smile into something radiant.

Smile transformations can be as simple as a teeth whitening treatment or as complex as dental implants to provide a new permanent tooth in a space where you’ve lost one. They can also include crowns to cover cracks and repair large cavities that can’t be refilled; veneers to give you rows of straight, even teeth; and more.

Your Sac Dentist listens to your concerns and discusses possible smile makeover options with you. They consider the condition and shape of your teeth, the condition of your gums, teeth and skin color, and more to decide on which treatments will give you optimal results.

The following are some of the most common cosmetic procedures your Sac Dentist can use to transform your appearance.

Teeth-whitening with professional-grade kits to take home

Are your teeth turning yellow or brown? Are they stained? If you’re a smoker, the tar and nicotine in cigarettes causes your teeth to develop a brownish appearance. If your teeth are yellowish or stained, it’s likely the result of aging and/or medications you’ve taken or the dark-colored beverages like coffee, tea, colas, and red wine that you’ve drunk over a lifetime.

It’s easy to make those discolored teeth up to eight shades whiter. Sac Dentist follows the recommendation of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and uses custom bleaching trays that fit the contours of your teeth precisely to whiten them. You can use the trays in the privacy of your home and marvel as your teeth become whiter and whiter.

Tooth-colored fillings

If you have a mouth full of metal because of old amalgam fillings made of mercury, silver, tin, or copper, your teeth can appear gray or black, making you feel self-conscious every time you open your mouth. Your Sac Dentist can remove the old amalgam fillings and replace them with ceramic and plastic-compound fillings that match the color of your teeth.

Porcelain veneers

Veneers are ultra thin covers that fit securely on the front of your teeth. They cover a multitude of cosmetic problems, including masking the appearance of crooked teeth, covering discolored teeth, evening out teeth that are too long or too short, covering misshapen teeth, and hiding chipped or broken teeth.

Sac Dentist uses porcelain veneers instead of resin or composites because they’re better at stain protection, and they’re strong. What’s the reason so many TV anchors have seemingly perfect teeth? Porcelain veneers. You, too, can have a row of beautiful, even teeth when your Sac Dentist applies your new veneers.

Dental bonding also covers a variety of tooth imperfections, including chipped, cracked, or stained teeth, or teeth with a gap between them.

If you only have one or two teeth that have these problems, then your Sac Dentist discusses bonding as a solution. Bonding is not expensive, and it can take care of the issues. Your Sac Dentist simply prepares the tooth with a gel, then applies the bonding material, using UV light to seal it into place. The final steps include shaping the material into the desired position to match the surrounding teeth and polishing to remove any debris.

Dental crowns and bridges

If one of your fillings falls out, and your Sac Dentist tells you that there’s too much decay to replace it, they’ll create a beautiful crown to fill in the space so you’re not left with a gap, and so your teeth don’t shift. Crowns fit like a glove over the remains of your tooth; since they’re matched for color, you won’t be able to tell the difference in appearance between it and your surrounding teeth.

Your Sac Dentist may recommend a bridge if you’re missing a tooth between surrounding teeth that have crowns or if you’re missing multiple teeth. You’ll have a beautiful new, artificial tooth that’s held in place by two crowns on either side, and you’ll have closed that unsightly empty space. Bridges can be either removable or permanent.

Dental implants are artificial teeth with a titanium ‘root’ affixed to the jaw bone. An advantage of an implant is that it preserves your bone and actually has been proven to grow new bone. Implants are the most secure and long-lasting restoration for missing teeth.
