Your journey to better health and overall well-being starts with restorative dentistry
For over 50 years, Sac Dentist has been proud to be a trusted independent and family-owned dental “home” for individuals and their families in and around Sacramento, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, and Roseville, California. We have partnered with our patients to stay ahead of problems like progressive tooth decay. However, when our dentist, Dr. Steven Phan, finds issues with your teeth, he has many options to fix them. These options generally fall under the restorations or restorative dentistry category.
What is restorative dentistry?
Restorative dentistry is any treatment recommended to restore the teeth’s health, function, and appearance. These treatments include dental restorations that may preserve teeth or replace them when they are “too far gone” due to irreparable damage. Treatment also includes root canal therapy, which is generally followed by a dental restoration (typically a dental crown).
How have you used restorative dentistry?
Dr. Phan has used restorations like composite or tooth-colored fillings to attractively, safely, and conservatively repair cavities or holes caused by the erosion of tooth structure (due to untreated decay). He also places crowns or “caps” on top of damaged tooth structure that has been “prepared,” or the diseased tissue has been removed. This process effectively gives the damaged tooth a second chance. This procedure may be best for teeth with larger cavities, cracks, and fractures, old or worn cavities that have left the tooth vulnerable to further damage, and more extensive decay or injury to the tooth that can’t be repaired with a simple filling. For teeth with deep damage to the innermost pulp or nerve, crowns may be preceded by root canal therapy. This treatment may be the only way to avoid extraction when a tooth has deep inflammation/infection. Lastly, Dr. Phan finds rebuilding smiles with restorations that replace missing/extracted teeth very rewarding.
What do you offer to replace teeth?
We’re happy to discuss the pros and cons of dental bridges, dentures (partial and complete), and dental implants. Dr. Phan also thoroughly evaluates your mouth and discusses your goals and preferences with you to then make the most appropriate recommendations. He provides each patient with lots of clear, good information. So they can then make the best decision for themselves. Considerations include the number and locations of missing or failing teeth and esthetics. Generally, the conventional bridge may be appropriate for replacing one or a few teeth. A partial denture can replace several teeth, whereas a complete denture replaces all of the teeth in the upper and/or lower arch(es). You may need an upper and/or lower denture(s). Implants are versatile; they can replace a single tooth, a few teeth, several teeth, or entire arches in the mouth.
How can I afford these treatments?
In many respects, we can flip that statement to ask how you can afford NOT to? There are numerous negative consequences associated with missing teeth. You need your teeth for so many different functions. Your nutrition, overall health, and quality of life can suffer tremendously without them. We don’t want that for our neighbors in Sacramento, Carmichael, CA, and beyond! We know you don’t want that, either.
Sac Dentist emphasizes that our pricing is very fair. We are also extremely transparent when it comes to costs. For example, our fillings cost anywhere from $221 to $436, depending on the number of surfaces that need restoration. Our porcelain/zirconia crowns range from $849 to $1,450, while our implant costs are “all-inclusive” and include the implant itself, the healing connector piece (or “abutment”), and the crown restoration. It’s also important to note that these procedures are medically necessary and, as such, 50% to 80% of the cost may be covered by your dental insurance plan. We’re proud to partner with CareCredit® and Cherry for out-of-pocket expenses to offer affordable financing at 0% for qualified borrowers.
